Two Torontonians, Shana Valo, 26, and Alix Duck, 27, are on a mission to support people living with ALS and their families. The pair, who both lost their fathers to this devastating disease, created A.L.S.O.— the ALS Objective— to help families living with ALS achieve and maintain the quality of life they deserve. ALS is an emotionally, physically and financially horrific disease. As a result one of A.L.S.O.’s long-term goals is to establish foundations and funds to help families finance family vacations and fun nights where families can spend time together, not as caregiver and patient, but as parent and child. Additional goals include facilitating caregiver respite and scholarships for children of people living with ALS.

Both Valo and Duck decided to enter the Pepsi Refresh Everything Project, where Canadians can submit their ideas in hopes of making a positive impact in the community. The ideas are voted on by the public and the top ideas are awarded cash prizes to get them up and running.

Valo and Duck are in the running to receive $10,000 to help them in their mission. They are donating a portion to support the ALS Society of Canada’s first ever Youth/Young Adult Engagement Retreat which will be held in September of this year. Only the top three ideas are awarded … you can support them by voting!

Please cast your vote for Valo and Duck by visiting improve the lives of families affected by ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) | Pepsi Refresh Everything - Canada, where you can also learn more about A.L.S.O.

You can cast one (1) vote every day. Voting ends August 31, 2010.
