C
Cannabinoids	One of ~123 organic compounds found in cannabis (cannabis) or hemp. See THC, CBD
Cannabis Oil	An extract or concentrate from the cannabis plant. FECO, full extract Cannabis oil, contains all cannabinoids and terpenes, including the psychotropic compound THC. See FECO, Hemp Oil
Carrier Oil	A neutral oil used to suspend or dilute cannabis extracts. Can be one or a combination of several oils, including coconut, olive Or even hemp seed oil. Note: Carrier oils should not be vaped.
CB1	Cannabinoid Receptor 1. CB1 receptors are mainly located in the brain and nervous system, as well as in the lungs, liver, and kidneys. The body’s natural endocannabinoids and the cannabinoid THC mainly bind with CB1, which gives relief from pain, nausea and depression.
CB2	Cannabinoid Receptor 2. CB2 receptors are found mainly in the immune system, with a heavy concentration in the spleen and in the GI system. CB2 receptors bind best with the endocannabinoid 2- AG and the cannabinoid CBD and are involved in the regulation of appetite, immune system functions like inflammation, and pain management.
CBD	Cannabidiol. The primary cannabinoid in hemp oil
CBDa	Cannabidiolic Acid. Precursor to CBD, nonpsycoactive. Found in raw (unheated) cannabis
D
Distillate	A highly concentrated (eg. 80%, 98%) cannabinoid extract, usually CBD or THC. Will contain small amounts of other cannabinoids and terpenes.

Edible	Cannabis compounds such as THC and/or CBD mixed into food stuffs such as cookies, brownies, gummy candies or suckers
Endocannabinoid System	The endocannabinoid system is an important modulatory system in the function of brain, endocrine, and immune tissues. It appears to play a very important regulatory role in the secretion of hormones related to reproductive functions and response to stress. See CB1, CB2
Entourage Effect	The synergistic effect produced when the various cannabinoids and terpenes are used together in FECO, such as CBD moderating the psychotropic effects of THC
Extract	A method to harvest the cannabinoids (and terpenes) from the Cannabis plant. Can be chemical using alcohol or CO2, or pressure.

FECO	Full Extract Cannabis Oil. Another term for Cannabis Oil. See RSO, Cannabis Oil

Genus	Upper level taxonomic definition; Cannabis.

Hemp Oil	Similar to Cannabis Oil but from cannabis containing less than 0.3% THC by weight. Hemp Oil is valued for its high CBD content, and for its low THC. Some Hemp Oil will be called full spectrum or whole plant to signify that it contains the full spectrum of cannabinoids and terpenes, excluding more than legal amounts of THC. Hemp Oil 2 Note: even Hemp Oil can result in a positive drug screen! If this is a concern, see Isolates.
Hemp seed oil	This cooking oil contains neither cannabinoids nor terpenes but is a great source of Omega-3s. Has no recreational or medicinal value Note: hemp SEED oil is often confused with Hemp Oil, intentionally or otherwise. They are wholly different substances, so be aware.

Indica	Cannabis indica. A species of cannabis used for medical cannabis, allegedly more sedating than sativa
Isolate	A chemical process that targets and extracts a specific cannabinoid, commonly CBD. As a CBD isolate contains no THC, it can be taken when a positive drug screen is a concern.

Marijuana	Pejorative or slang term for cannabis.

RSO	Rick Simpson’s Oil aka Phoenix Tears. The original FECO used a toxic chemical, isopropyl alcohol, for the extraction process.
S
Sativa	Cannabis sativa. A species of cannabis used for medical cannabis, allegedly more stimulating than indica
Species	Lower level taxonomic definition; sativa, indica, ruderalis. Note: there is conjecture that the three Cannabis species may actually be a single species, sativa.
T
Terpene	One of ~200 organic compounds found in cannabis, and other plants, different from cannabinoids. Source of essential oils and turpentine.
THC	Tetrahydrocannabinol the psychotropic component in cannabis, and one of the primary cannabinoids.
THCa	Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid. Precursor to THC, nonpsycoactive. Found in raw (unheated) cannabis
Tincture	An oil-based suspension of cannabinoids and terpenes extracted using alcohol from either Cannabis species, high in THC. See FECO, Hemp oil
V
Variety	Aka strain, cultivar or hybrid. An unofficial taxonomic level below species; plants bred to enhance desired characteristics (eg. High CBD) or suppress undesired characteristics; Haleigh’s Hope, Charlotte’s Web, Purple Haze, to name a few.
