Article from July 2023:

An interdisciplinary research team headed up at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) and TU Dresden is investigating the potential of using magnetic fields to restore impaired motoneurons.

Anybody have any knowledge/thoughts about this?

The answer to your thread title is, "We don't know." Stimulating cells in culture is way different from intervening when they are inside a human body and we want them to send impulses to move muscles.

That approach has a long way to go, with no in vivo experiments as yet.

We found a clinic that offers DTMS and tried our best to replicate this experiment. We felt like it definitely helped my husband, his mood was better, he had more energy, speech seemed clearer and his extreme sensitivity to cold temperatures got much better. But it’s hard to say if that was just placebo. And it was very expensive. But it’s the only thing we have tried where we saw actual improvements not just slowing of progression. My husband is 2 years since bulbar onset diagnosis, still walking, getting dressed, talking, eating and driving on his own. There was a recent article published at ALS news today about a small trial in Italy as well.

One would expect the mood and energy improvement as it has an indication for depression. I am glad he felt his speech was better and the temperature thing. I hope it will prove helpful in a larger trial.

There were issues with the Italian trial They apparently included everyone in their survival data including the drop outs. Of course the drop outs received fewer treatments and the reasons for dropping out seemed tied to disease progression. Of course people experiencing respiratory failure died sooner. They also got fewer treatments

I am 2 yrs from diagnosis and have head itching and when someone scratches it for me all the nerves tingle and twitch down to my toes I would lover to hear more about new trials.
