simple babinski test - scrape a fork from heel to toe on either foot...
toes curl up - upper motor disorder not specified and investigate.
toes curl down - lower motor neuron disorder no effect on bulbar symptoms - investigate further other than mnd.
tony

I have done the Babinski Test and my toes did not curl up.

Your toes not curling up points away from MND. With all of these symptoms that you described what did the Dr think was wrong? Did they schedule a follow up, prescribe any additional tests, point you towards a specialist of some sort? Besides telling you that they did not suspect MND what did they tell you?

My doctor hasn't given me any explanation, They just seem like they don't know what to do, I have had no reassurances and no possible cause has been given, I am going back in the next 2 weeks to see them again.

But they never said they did not suspect MND, But i suppose if they did suspect MND they would have sent me straight to a Neurologist, Although the doctor said they might consider sending me to a Neurologist but they said to see what happens.

I can tell you that when My Dr got all o fmy test results and did another physical exam he told me to get to a Neurologist quickly and he said do not just go anywhere get to one at Piedmont or Emory which are the 2 best hospitals in our area. So yes if your Dr suspected ALS they would have referred you to a neurologist. Did they prescribe any additional tests?

I have only had blood tests which have shown raised ESR and White Blood Count levels.

I have had 2 physical exams done by the same doctor in the past 2-3 weeks where a rubber hammer was used on my muscles both times.

As i said my doctor is considering referring me to a Neurologist maybe it's because i said i was worried about MND, They wouldn't consider sending me to one would they if they thought it was something major? They would have just referred me but as they didn't i guess they didn't think anything bad was wrong? They never said i don't have MND but they never said they suspected anything either.

I do take medication for panic attacks, I do have to have some more Blood Tests done but no other tests are being done.

If you don't mind me asking what test results did you have before your doctor sent you to a Neurologist?

blood tests, MRI of neck, MRI of brain, MRA of brain.

Also I do not mean this to be sarcastic only to prove a point, you say that your Dr didn't tell you that you don't have a MND so that is one of the reasons you suspect it. However there ar emany other things the Dr didn't tell you that you don't have as a matter of fact I am sure that everytime you go to the Dr they do not give you a list of what is not wrong. They only tell you what they suspect is wrong.

I am not a Dr so I will not tell you what is or isn't wrong with you, I will just say that you must control your mind and keep it from having irrational fears. Follow up with your Dr's and let the diagnosis play itself out. You may find that ultimately there is nothing wrong or you may find it is something very simple that they can treat easily. So until you hear it from a Dr put the thought of MND out of you rmind and relax!

I am not a Dr. nor an expert but if you are asking my uneducated lay opinion I would say no. What you have described does not sounds like an MND. You said you do not have the Babinski sign and the Dr's told you that you do not have any weakness. Both of which are hallmarks of ALS.

You have more symptoms of botulism poisoning than MND/ALS.

Please give up on MND/ALS as a DX, or instead of being a reallyworriedguy, you are going to be a reallycrazyguy.

The symptoms that worry me the most are to do with my Face/Mouth/Throat, My doctor done the Babinski test on me and i got someone to do it for me yesterday but my toes did not curl up or down but that just means i have no sign of problems with my Upper Motor Neurones, What about my Lower Motor Neurones?

These are my really major concerns:- I am feeling these problems more and more.

1.Chewing seems slower and harder like my jaws or mouth muscles are wasting.
2.I have a lot of saliva in my mouth which i have to constantly clear, Why would i have excess saliva? and clearing it all the time makes my throat sore.
3.I have a very bad dull ache/pressure in my head, face, jaws, ears and mouth and even throat.
4.Swallowing can seem different and even when i am not eating or drinking, It constantly feels as though something is stuck in my throat.
5.I have been coughing a lot for the past 2 weeks, It sometimes happens after eating or drinking.
6.Now and again i do choke very slightly on food and drink but i can drink half a bottle of cola in one go.
7.I am feeling dizzier and more lightheaded.
8.Basically my tongue, jaws, mouth and throat feel weak.
9.I have more and more pain in my mouth and throat and neck.

I would also like to ask 2 questions:-

1.What is the chances of a 29 year old developing MND?
2.What is the chances of a 29 year old developing the PBP form of MND?

Thank you for reading and thanks for your time.

I'm trying Sadiemae honestly i am but these symptoms are really interfering with my life and i am worrying so much about MND/PBP I just can't seem to stop worrying about it and i am 99.9% sure that i actually do have it.

Well RWG, if you are that sure then it must be so. So what now?
I am sorry if that sounds harsh but really, if you have it what are you going to do about it? I haven't responded to your pm's because none of what you describe is anything like what I have experienced so what do I know?

Here are a few of the symptoms. At one time or another you've described them all. Odds are in favor of this rather than ALS. Not saying you have it but it's one diagnosis that points away from ALS which you've become fixated on. Sensory issues like yours are not ALS.

The classic symptoms of botulism include double vision, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, and muscle weakness. Constipation may occur. The doctor's examination may reveal that the gag reflex and the deep tendon reflexes like the knee-jerk reflex are decreased or absent.
