I have had a few recent episodes of liquids going down the wrong hole, is this an initial Bulbar symptom? This has happened in the past but I am not sure whether to be concerned. No speech issues at all

If it is longstanding, it's even less likely. Some people's swallowing is more easily irritated than others'. Sometimes GERD, allergies and/or polyps play a role. A nasal steroid, sugar-free cough drop and/or throat spray are worth trying if you haven't. Some people just don't do well with thin liquids and any liquid can be made thicker, or you make different choices.

If it persists or worsens or affects your hydration, you might consult an ENT to rule out something structural that can be treated.

Best,
Laurie

Okay , so this is not an initial symptom of Bulbar ALS? I meant that it has happened occasionally in the past, it has not been frequent.

Slurred speech is typically the first sign of bulbar; you cannot hear it but others can. Someone with bulbar sounds as if they have been drinking.

If you do not have these symptoms, you are good to go.

Take care
