So I'm a 22 year old male who has been having some neurological symptoms lately. It started with postural tremor in the hands and limbs (no resting tremor) along with some clonus-like jerking. I have since noticed some difficulty swallowing, my gait is a little strange, my voice gets hoarse quite easily, I've now developed some facial tremor when posturing (half-smiles, etc), and worst of all, I've got a constant internal fine jaw tremor. It is not visible to the eye, but I feel like my lower jaw is constantly shaking, and it feels a little weak, as though I'd like to just let imy mouth hang open. I never feel my tongue twitching, but looking in the mirror it seems to twitch occasionally at rest, and trembles a decent amount if I stick it out. I've been having terrible anxiety over this and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Symptoms have lasted for weeks now.

Has anyone noticed your speech being affected? That would be cause for concern. If you are that worried please go to your GP who can make some referrals to specialists if they find anything to be concerned about. Good luck!

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure tremors aren't a hallmark of ALS. It does sound like something is going on though, so I think a doctor's visit is warranted. I would keep a little log of your symptoms and questions for the doctor. If you're like me, you will have all these questions to discuss, but then when you get into the doctor's office, you totally go blank, realizing only afterward that you didn't get some of your chief concerns addressed. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sounds not a thing like ALS. As the others said, you need to get checked out by a doctor to see what the problem is. Try not to self examine. Tongues always quiver when stuck out. My face goes crazy if I half smile, nothing wrong , it's just me and common. I never grimace and half smile, so only found the strange phenomenon, when I stupidly self examined my face! Sent me into an unnecessary spin as well. I got taught a valuable lesson......leave examinations to the knowledgable well trained doctors.

I wish you the best

If we could only throw away mirrors. What a happier place many of us could be.

As the others said, make an app ointment and write your list. Imo it doesn't sound like als either.

Good luck,

See your doc, but ALS just doesn't affect all areas within several weeks. Good luck to you.

Just an update. I saw my neurologist this morning. She tells me I am fine. She said she saw "normal" twitching of my tongue, but no fasiculations. She did an overall physical exam, including watching and feeling my throat as i swallowed. She said the muscles looked and felt OK, and that it might be reflux-related (I'm not diagnosed, but I suspect) or nasal drip related due to my sinusitis. Still can't shake the feeling something is wrong though.

Believe you doctor. She went to school for many years to diagnose you. You're fine. Get some over the counter allergy med if you have post nasal drip, an antacid if indigestion. That's what healthy people do. You're healthy.

That's good news, buddy - trust in it.

Go out and enjoy your life! Become an advocate to raise awareness for ALS. HUGS Lori
