Today we picked up a brace for my wife's drop foot. As soon as she put it on and walked I could notice an improvement in her walking. She said she thinks walking feels better. The technician who fitted her also said she looks visibly better. She still needs the walker but she says the feeling of losing her balance is better. She said as we were leaving the place maybe she can walk at home without the walker.
I know I'm reporting with only a very short trial period but so far I see improvement. I also realize that something that helps my wife may not help everyone but from what I've seen so far if you have drop foot and don't have a brace you should definitely give it a try.

I am so glad you got an afo. I got mine early and agree that they can be incredibly helpful

My husband always uses his brace when we leave home, but he has to use a walker all the time. He can not walk with out walker now. Safety is very important. It is hard to heal if you fall.

Excellent idea getting the AFO. Even that may help with the knee pain she has had. Given that she has really bad knee pain bilaterally, I would strongly recommend continuing with an assistive device. Remember that walkers are tools to give you more independence. They do not make you disabled. Falling and injuries are what rob us of our independence. It’s a matter of getting past our own hangups of accepting things that help us as things change.

I agree, I broke my wrists in separate falls and my hand function is not back to normal after much rehab.
