Hello All.

I am hoping to get some answers to help out my mother, bulbar onset. We are at the bi-pap stage now and we are not able to keep her mouth shut( even with chin strap) to really get those breaths into her lungs. Any suggestions. She is ready to give it up, throw in the towell. I desperately want her to use it, at least some as I know it will exercise those lungs and keep her here with us as long as possible. I know there have been many posts about bi-pap, I was just wondering about the open mouth issue.

Love to you all!

Hi Holly. Has she tried a full face mask? It covers the nose and mouth so the open mouth is not a problem. I've been using an Ultra Mirage II since 2005.

Hi, My wife has Bulbar and is also on Bipap. She cannot close her mouth either and as Al suggests use the full face mask. This is what Tammy uses and it does work. Good luck!

Thanks to you both. I appreciate the help, it is amazing how little the medical community knows about ALS and how to help.

Love,
Holly
