Hello Friends. I have read some what I believe are encouraging thinks about possible benefits of Lithium. My wife just told about early ALS stage and I would hear from anybody who has tried or is taking Lithium to combat this beast . Does anyone have any encouraging stories about possible help from the Lithium? Thanks for any and all input!

Andy

Andy,

Allen is right. Lithium was all the rage in 2008 and several of us tried it but it has since proven to not be effective in ALS. What you read was probably from 2008 or earlier.

Right now, Rilutek is the only FDA approved ALS medication. There are a few promising drugs in Phase II and Phase III trials. If your wife has had symptoms for less than 36 months she may qualify to participate in one of these trials. Have you seen Dr. Graves at UCLA?

Sorry, Lithium didn't do one blasted thing. My husband self trialed along with others on PLM and ALSTDI when the Italian study came out.

Good luck, Andy, to you and your wife.

Mine and others I know had progression speed up while on it. Forget about it.
