I have an appointment with Dr. Harati at the Baylor College of Medicine today. He is one of two neuromuscular disease specialists there. I really want him to tell me I'm crazy or that all I have is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and the problems I'm having in my feet are totally unrelated to the problems in my hands/arms. I have read through the forums quite a bit and from what I can tell, there are signs that a regular neurologist might miss, but a neuromuscular specialist would be able to quickly identify. I feel pretty good as I have already seen two neuros and both of them told me not to worry. The second neuro that I saw told me that he has seen 10 patients over 17 years with ALS, so he does have some experience with the disease.

I got my EMG report mailed to me from my first neuro. Like I said in my "My EMG" post, it said that I have slight nerve damage in both hands (NVC <39, mine was 38.9 in both hands), but no evidence of denervation, so I hope that is good. Also muscle function was normal in all 30 or so places that he stuck me with a needle. I hope that is another good sign.

So, I'm going to the hospital to get a copy of my medical records, then it's off to Baylor. Wish me luck.

good luck, let us know when you get back....

Dr. Harati reviewed my medical records and my EMG results. His assistant did most of the exam, but he did spend about 15 minutes with me. He told me he agrees with Dr. Le, that I have only Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and not to let my symptoms worry me. So, I'm pretty happy for now. He told me that if my symptoms do not improve over the next month, then schedule an appointment with him or the other doc and they could do a higher quality EMG, but he reassured me that he did not expecto to find anything other than evidence of Carpal Tunnel. Thanks for your support folks. Looks like Im okay.

Congrats, JA! That's great news! Thank God it's something that is treatable. Dr. Harati used to be my late son's doc, so was Quan and Appel. Keep us posted, and enjoy the holidays. Thanks for letting us know!

I would say that it should be a Merry Christmas around your house this year. Good luck.
