Hello everyone,
For over 6 months now, my right thumb has been very sore and tired, like an arthritic pain, and most of all I’m experiencing kind of a restlessness that makes it hard to exert strength in my thenar muscle area. I understand loss of function/mobility is the hallmark symptom of ALS, which I have not had yet (ie I haven’t dropped any object unintentionally or have difficulty buttoning, writing, etc) however those activities come more strenuously as the thenar muscle area feels stiff and weak, like the feeling I’m about to drop something and am holding on to it strenuously. Most concerningly, it seems like I have atrophy in the said thenar muscle area so wanted to ask here if this is indeed atrophy and/or if atrophy is precedes loss of mobility. I know a young lady in her 20s who is diagnosed with ALS and her first noticeable symptom was stiff and sore wrist without loss of mobility. Her next symptom was difficulty speaking (and this is a function she still retains to this day) before she experienced mobility with her legs. My father also passed from ALS.
Photos of my right had where the atrophy is are attached as well as those of my left hand for comparison.
Thank you so much for your time and understanding.

Hello there-

When you last posted here, it was recommended you visit with your doctor to get a full exam. You had indicated you'd been provided some feedback about possible acid reflux and that your doctor had not considered your other concerns related to ALS. Have you continued to work with your doctor over the last few months? Have you returned to let them know about your concerns and to have any changes tracked?

(past thread here to see prior discussion).

I forgot to add that I do not have any reflexes in my knees. Completely absent in both knees. The knee reflex test was at a chiropractor and she did not test any other reflexes.

I do ask again whether your doctor has been following you all this time and what they're communicating to you about your concerns.

Cshin...

You joined November 2021... I'm sure you have read our position concerning
posting pictures. They are nearly useless to us... meaningless.

No chiropractor is in any position to affirm or support anything to do with ALS
diagnosis.

And... to only check your knees and no where else makes no sense after
supposedly finding no reflexes on your knees.
