just got power wheelchair...starting to look at buying conversion mini-van....any input on what to consider, avoid, etc ...ref brand of vehicle, converters, features, etc would be appreciated....thanks.

We shopped around (just online) to some of the major companies and ended up going with a Rollx van, they convert Dodge/Chrysler minivans at their plant in Minneapolis, and have nationwide delivery. Perhaps we went this way because we were going to Mayo Clinic by Rochester, and so were in the area....but we love all the features. The downside is that they are pretty expensive, but my mother-in-law helped us out so it wasnt as big an issue. They do have a buy-back program and sell a lot of used ones, so it might be possible to save some money there. Have used ones on the website.

Things we like...remote control opens side entry door and deploys ramp...my husband and chair can wheel into passenger area and then an automatic lock-down grabs his chair (dont have to use tie-down straps for the chair). Like the minivan in general, handles good, fairly good gas mileage....we did a big trip driving from Montana to Mexico and had a blast---van was a real treat.
There are many companies doing these conversions...this is just how we went and are happy.

Good Luck...Beth and Shannon
