Hi

I would love some advice as I unfortunately fell Into the trap of Dr Google.

I'm 36 year old female, end of December 2023 I was holding my phone and my hand jerked to the point I dropped my phone.

Since then have experienced increasing muscle twitches. At point the muscle twitches are all over the body, even the cheek when I smile. They are very frequent almost continuous.

I don't think I have any weakness or muscle wastage. I have have developed spasms were the leg will jerk.

As these twitches happen all the time I find myself constantly worrying.

I came across a video on social media were the person says the first symptom they had was muscle twitches.

Are muscle twitches at the frequency I have a cause for concern. I can't get a gp appointment until a couple of weeks.

Thank you for your time.

Twitching alone is not a concern. I'd look to sleep, stress, diet, hydration, and any possible nutritional deficiencies. Quality and quantity of sleep is probably #1 to dig into. You can track your sleep with a wearable.

Thank you so much for your.reply I appreciate you

Sorry just to clarify, I read on the Internet, bad I know, that wide spread twitches are cause for concern rather than localised to one area twitches. Since mine are everywhere including the face and even my foot I can't help but worry. Is twitches/spasm all over the body a reason to worry?

Heya-

The hallmark symptoms of ALS/MND is clinical weakness. Twitching is caused by so many different things- widespread, focal, whatever. You're trying to jam a whole lot of meaning into single, non specific thing that happens to many many people- as common as throat clearing. If you are that worried about your health, visit with a doctor for an exam, but it is very clear searching the internet is very bad for your anxiety levels.

Thank you so much I really appreciate you time. You have no idea how much it means that you are taking the time to reply to me. I have one final question if you don't mind then I will remove myself from the forum. Is a continuous buzzing or vibration feeling a worry, I have it in my right right leg, particularly calf muscle and it's driving me crazy. I have deliberately not Google this

I can not tell you how many people here who did not have ALS complain of buzzing/ vibration. I am sure it is very aggravating but should not be worrisome. As Shiftkicker said the hallmark of ALS is clinical weakness.

Thank you so much Nikki and Shiftkicker, bless you both x

Hi apologises I'm back again. I'm updating this thread for anyone going through something similar and also for myself.

I'm still having the almost constant twitches which I notice in my lips, calfs, thighs, arms, feet and sometimes my neck. I also get spasms and jerks of my hands and legs. I notice these .mostly at rest but have felt them when active. I take daily electrolytes and vitamins but this hasn't made a difference. I had a brain mri for another issue in December past which didn't show anything.

Since this twitching etc has been ongoing for about 3 months I went to my doctor who has ordered blood tests, he said if this comes back clear I'll be referred to neurology.
This has scared me as I expected him to say it was nothing to worry about.

He did tests on my arms and legs to check for weakness which there was none.

My question is if twitching without weakness isn't an issue why would I need a neurology referral? And also if it was something like als would I have had some further progression in these 3 months than twitches and spasms no matter how frequent they are?

I have referred myself to private therapy as I know anxiety is an issue

Thank you

Probably they think it will reassure you. Or they don’t want to deal with you.

Yes
