Another song mistake… "Run Through the Jungle" by Credence Clearwater Revival.

The song's title and lyrics, as well as the year it was released (1970), have led many Viet Nam Veterans
and Veteran Organizations to assume that the song is about the Vietnam War

However, in a 2016 interview, John Fogerty explained that the song is actually about the proliferation
of guns in the United States and on the Chicago streets, not Viet Nam.

"The thing I wanted to talk about was gun control and the proliferation of guns, I remember reading
around that time that there was one gun for every man, woman and child in America,"

*About all the music videos played with that song shows video scenes of Viet Nam. Now, it is what it is.
I was there... you don't run through the jungle when on patrol. great way to get snared or blown up.
Unless... you face overwhelming fire and you are running back the path you took getting there.

PS. A General once said, "We never retreat." Yes we do and yes we have.. Now the terminology is...
"Withdraw and regroup." :)

Tillie, yes our unit worked with the Aussies. It was the reason I took my RR to Sidney.
I really enjoyed my time there. I've always wanted to go back. About that time I got
an offer to live there. Don't remember the details but if I lived and worked there for
5 years much of the expense of moving there would be reimbursed. Again, many
years ago Australia needed certain occupations but I don't recall the details.( Would
have been around 1972 - 1975.)

You brought back some memories... good ones.

"A General once said, 'We never retreat'."

General Oliver P. Smith is quoted as saying at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, "Retreat, hell! We're not retreating, we're just advancing in a different direction." :)

Being the thread got into mistakes…

The Viet Nam war was a mistake. President Eisenhower was the first
President to send military to Viet Nam. Then after the French pulled out
suffering horrible losses realizing it was an unwinnable situation for
them. Many blamed President Kennedy for being the first President to
send troops.

Henry Kissinger holds a share of blame because he wrote a theory that
we were too dependent on being just a nuclear power but we also needed
to show we were capable of fighting small arms conflicts too. The military
generals bought in to it eagerly pushing President Kennedy too. Then
President Johnson and President Nixon.

Kissinger became the architect guru of the Viet Nam War, influencing
three Presidents with this folly. Eventually generals began to realize
Kissinger had us headed down a dead end street. Yet, he got praise
for the Paris Peace Talks for a war he created, proliferated and profited
from when over 50,000 men and women died and millions wounded
from and to this day. Other ally countries lost precious lives and their
wounded came home. The Viet Nam War was the biggest mistake and
series of failures up till then we suffered.

A few years after Viet Nam I thought there’d never be another Viet Nam.
But… three more followed. Viet Nam has become the forgotten war.

Yea, it’s long but my opinion Henry Kissinger was a big mistake too.

Back to songs that were mistakes. :)

How about a song that wasn't a mistake?

I feel like the Who were kind of prescient in the song "Won't Get Fooled Again". I think it can be taken from either political side, with the key being, "meet the new boss, same as the old boss".

Tillie,
We should be more like Australia. Fewer guns. Has OZ even had one school shooting? My friend lost her child in Texas. Is there any reason for ANYONE other than the military to have an assault weapon? NO.

Wmilo, how about the song by KISS... "I Was Made For Loving You." Now that would have
been a rockers Valentine's song. It's easy to drum to. Shoot... all I wanted to do was post
just the link. Whatever...
