Simple cuestion.

I you're afraid of having ALS and set some strength test in areas you consider weak and you're doing progression with such exercises ¿it could be considered as a good sign?

That could be a good way of getting ride of ALS fear, no?

If I understand you correctly, you have perceived weakness, and following some exercise you noted the improvement in your strength.

Personally, I would question the facts upon which your fears are based, and if convinced that you are experiencing symptoms seek appropriate medical assistance. But then, I have never a big fan of little games people play with their fears and anxieties.

Simple answer: If you're able to improve your muscular strength by doing exercises, you don't have ALS weakness in those areas.

Generally, however, I agree with Daniela that testing oneself for ALS is a bad idea, because the underlying anxiety will not be put to rest. An over-riding fear of ALS usually has nothing whatsoever to do with ALS. It is an expression of deeper fears that the person isn't facing, and worrying about ALS gives them a rational focus for all their buried anxiety. "Well, of course, I'm worried and afraid! I've probably got some terrible fatal disease! Who wouldn't be nervous?" This fear of ALS often pops up when there is a major life change looming ... job loss, upcoming marriage, concerns about getting older, etc.

So "testing" usually backfires, because the worrier will discover some other, even more scary symptom, in the process.

This is just a casual observation. I'm not a shrink, I just play one on the Internet. Best advice: if you seriously think you have a medical problem, see a doctor.

Dear Sai,
It sounds like you just needed somewhere to help you clarify that you need some additional support. I hope you get the help you need to alleviate your anxiety and stress so you can enjoy your life and loved ones.

Peace,

I've been thinking lately that I'm going to be given a bad diagnosed someday. In fact, I hope so, cause I'd like to have some time to let things properly fixed. It can happen in 3 weeks or in 30 years. I'm not in a hurry, but when it comes it will equally kick me in the ass. Better put my mind to asume it rather to fight against it.

thanks for your time and sorry for the babling
:)

Wish you the best.
