I'm being sent to the ALS clinic in Charlotte by my Neurologist, mostly for a second opinion (strong family history). I've read the first clinic visit suggestions. But are there any other suggestions regarding traffic, parking, or anything else I should know. I'm completely mobile, independent, and vocal still, but my husband will be with me of course. Can I expect a long day? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I hope there is someone here with experience of that clinic

Usually though a second opinion diagnostic visit is different than a regular clinic day even though it happens in the same place and possibly the same time clinic is happening around you. If there is an urgent need they might call in one of the specialties - say pt for a mobility device but otherwise the person if diagnosed will be scheduled for an upcoming clinic day At my clinic they even have a special day when they see the new patient diagnostic visits

It is best to be prepared for a long day. Snacks and water, a sweater in case it is chilly that sort of thing. I am glad your husband will be there a second set of ears, someone to take notes etc is great.

Best of luck

ETA Is the facility website helpful for logistics like parking? I would look too to see if they have valet service. It is a cost of course but it might help mitigate the stress of it all. The building my clinic is in does have it and I think it is especially helpful the first time so you learn where everything is

Is this for an EMG, exam, or both?

The first available appt is for Sept. 25. Should have plenty of data built up in my notes by then. :)

If you can travel VCU has an early detection program you might want to look into. Otherwise are you on the cancel list?

Hi Nikki,
I am on the cancel list. She said my name has "high priority" beside it, for whatever that's worth. Thanks for the info on VCU. I have not heard of that and will certainly look in to it.

One of our members here told us about vcu and was in their program
