I don't know if anyone has applied for VA benefits, but here goes. My husband Jim died of ALS in July, 2002. This past February I was told that the VA was taking applications on behalf of the spouse. My husband was in the Army Reserves for 6 years and spent from April until July working in a supply depot. Yesterday I received word from the VA that my application had been denied because he was not on active duty. Has anyone applied for benefits and received them that was in the reserves? Thanks much

I'm so sorry that you lost your husband to this horrible disease. Unfortunately, I have not heard of anyone receiving benefits unless they served on active duty. I'm sure more folks will weigh in.

Same as Becky. Active duty service eequired for a continuous period...I think 90 days

Yup. 90 days of active duty which was not for training. Very sorry to hear of your denial.

I was in the reserves but did 90 days active duty during Desert Storm. I qualified for benefits under these circumstances.
