Thank you to everyone who has replied so far. It has been interesting and heartwarming and heartbreaking to read what people have shared. And I realized where you are in your disease progression has a huge impact. How I describe my relationship is different at different stages, and I don't know what it will look like further down this road.
 
Kristina, sometimes this monster gives us very hard earned gifts, and that you can recognize and appreciate them speaks volumes about you and your husband both. I think intimacy is about lowering barriers--it's as emotional as it is physical. When you both overcome your aversion to and embarrassment about performing the less pleasant acts of caregiving, how can that not open you up even further in your lovemaking? I'm delighted for you that you found this new openness while you can enjoy sex. With this kind of relationship between you, I'm sure that you will find other wonders as your condition changes.
