Do you know any one that has ALS and were using or use Lipitor or Statin drug for cholesterol ?

Thanks, Eric

I was taking statins...

I got a coupla emails regarding the subject:
Dr. Beatrice Golomb, UCSD, would like to hear from anyone who was taking Cholesterol-Lowering Drugs (Statins) for any length of time before diagnosis of ALS.

There very well could be a link. I have her e-mail address it is [email protected].
PLEASE contact her and tell her your story.

If statin drugs are (may be) causing ALS we have to find out soon.

and

Thank you for your interest in the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) Statin Effects Study, and for sharing your experience on cholesterol-lowering drugs with us. We have heard many cases in which people have reported problems that may be related to statin use. Our goal is to learn as much as possible about these symptoms, as there is little research available on them to date. We think this is especially important because statins and cholesterol-lowering drugs have become the most widely prescribed medications in the country.

We are seeking to get information from people who may have experienced statin associated problems in order to better address questions posed to us by others who are currently experiencing such problems. If you are willing, we would be grateful if you could complete the attached questionnaire pertaining to your experience. Please fill it out as completely as possible. Attached is an MSWord version and an Adobe .pdf version; use whichever is preferable. The information provided will help us to better understand these medications and any of their possible side effects. We also attached a consent form; a signature is needed in order for us to include any of the information sent to us. If you prefer to have this form mailed, please e-mail us back a return address and we will be glad to send them with a postage-paid envelope.

Please be reassured that any identifying information will be kept confidential within the study group. The “Notice of Privacy Practices” can be accessed through the following website: http://health.ucsd.edu/hipaa/hipaa.asp.

Please mail the consent form, along with the questionnaire to:

Also, please consult our new website to read about statin medications and to find resources to learn more. We will keep this site up-to-date with our latest findings. The URL is: http://medicine.ucsd.edu/ses/

Thanks Mike, I will look into this further. I have a friend of mine that took Lipitor for over 10 years 80 mg and has start a depression and Effexor prescription 3 years ago....than a year later he start to have his ALS symptoms. Weakness of the muscle should alert everybody taking statin drug to stop medication and consult their doctor(It's on the label)...but the bad thing about doctor is that they don't know it themself. After 2 year on ALS, Jean-Guy my friend just stop using statin because another of my friend was having the symptoms of ALS and a specialist told him to stop Lipitor because he think that's linked....It's freaking.

For now Jean-Guy is supplying himself with Omega 3 (Dr. Sears book) and he's on a very healthy diet....real food. After 3 month he increase his blood test by 500%. He never had those result on Statin in the last 10 years. Sometime health his simple...Hyppocrate said 2300 years ago let your food be your medecine and your medecine be your food...so that's the path he's trying. Also in those years of toxic product, it's seem important that he get a good cleansing, this is what I'm trying to put him on.

Good luck Mike !

As luck would have it I take Lipotor 10 mg too.

Go on Lipitor and read on it. I suggest that if you take other drugs to do the same as well.

Good luck !
