My husband was diagnosed with frontallobe dementia in Aug of 2012. He is still working and his behaviors are controlled by meds. Last week he started having muscle twitches...but unlike anything I've ever seen. It was like waves on water the muscles in his calfs were shimmering. This went on for days but now it is sporatic yet continues. He has also had extreme muscle tension in his back. He looks like he is crooked and he has stumbled a number of times (which is unusual for him) The chiropracter can not figure out why his muscles are so tight and he is not responding to treatment. I hope this isn't als, but we already have a fatal diagnosis with a disease that is untreatable. I know ftd and als can often be found together. Any thoughts would be appreciated, I guess I'm afraid to call his neurologist, I'm not sure I want to know.

I would call the neurologist.

Sticking your head in the sand in this situation is not a good thing.

Trust me, I know it's hard and scary - but in the case that ALS is also present, you need to make adjustments.
