Im 45 and have been losing significant weight and muscle for a few months down from 14 stone to 12.5 stone. My testosterone is low, so I initially put it down to this.

Recently my legs and arms were tingling and numb, this has followed with twitches all over my muscle groups, but mainly legs for days now unable to sleep.

In just 2 weeks my core muscles are gone, it hurts to walk, my hips sore and left leg refusing to cooperate. Both legs are numb behind the knee. My arms and hands weak with poor coordination.

I also in the last month developed reflux, and lump in throat, which I now put down to muscle loss on one side bringing on this feeling.

I have been to GP and he's referred me for a back scan. However family and friends think this is just anxiety and I am suffering from all the physical effects, especially the constant twitching muscles and muscles wasting. I'm sure this is ALS.

Help please, reassurance either way would be useful.

Hello-

I am sorry you are finding yourself in need of answers about your health.

Please make sure to read here: Read Before Posting. It explains why sensory issues point away from ALS and towards something else. Hopefully you will find it reassuring with regards to ALS/MND. It sounds like you are in good hands with your doctor, as they are taking you seriously and have a plan.

Please take care

I've read all the sensory issues, but can't get away from the muscles fasciculations and wasting. I'm eating well and loosing 0.5 kg a day in muscle, it's dropping off and causing me pain, joint aches and stiffness. I'm 45 and was in great shape 14 stone 2 months ago. I'm shocked at how fast I'm deteriorating. Everything I read about ALS says it comes on over a longer time period, not a few months.

It doesn’t sound like ALS. That is not saying nothing is wrong with you. However you are unlikely to find answers here. 21 pounds is a lot for unintentional weight loss so I hope you have a full workup to determine the cause. Numbness and tingling are also sensory symptoms not just pain aches and stiffness
