I received an Air Hawk wheelchair. I am blessed to have it but I noticed that parts for it are ridiculously expensive. For example the plastic journal cap similar in shape and function for other items would sell for about a dollar. This single cap is $15. The bag or basket (which ripped very easily because its polyester and thin) would be a give away or sell for less than $10 if used in some other environment is $68 replace.

Is this case for all mobility devices?

I am all for a company or entrepreneur to make money but those prices seem extreme to me.

What are your thoughts?

Yes, in general this is the case for mobility devices.

Whenever practical, I buy used wheelchair parts from ebay. For new parts, I try to find the same part from some other vendor, such as Spinlife.

The manufacturers of my wheelchairs (Permobil and Magic Mobility) will not sell directly to customers. Instead, I have to purchase items from a Durable Medical Equipment (DME) provider. When I have no choice except to buy from a DME, the prices are outrageous.
