Hi I am caring for my mother who was diagnosed with PBP in September last year. She has been doing pretty well and still runs around as much as she can cooking and living life as normally as possible. Her speech has continued to deteriorate however and in the last couple of days, she has developed a cough every time she tries to speak. Is this a sign of the diseases progression? She is fine when she does not talk. Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced the same and if you could provide some words of advice. I would be so grateful for any information. Kind regards Maria

Maria,
Thank you for caring for your mom. You are right; it could signify progression as her muscles may be going into spasm with the effort of talking. Does there seem to be mucus, saliva or is it a dry cough? If you are in a dry season/climate, home humidification and saline throat spray may help.

Best,
Laurie
