Saw this snippet on 9 to 5 Mac and since we sometimes talk about emergency alert systems, might be of interest. Of course, if your iPhone is at hand, you can use Siri that way, too, if you can talk but not dial.

“Hey Siri” hands-free activation is supported on the AirPods Pro, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods Max. The feature is enabled so long as you have “Hey Siri” set up on your iPhone. You can check this by going to Settings > Siri & Search > and looking for “Listen for Hey Siri” in the options.

You can also activate Siri on your AirPods manually. With AirPods Pro and AirPods 3, you can activate Siri when you press and hold the Force Sensor. AirPods and AirPods 2 support Siri activation by double-tapping on the sides of your AirPods. You can check these settings in the “Bluetooth” menu of the Settings app when your AirPods are paired with your iPhone.

Once you have Siri set up on your AirPods, you can simply tell it to call 911 in an emergency.

the great thing with the air pods is you can practically whisper and Siri responds

what's the average continuous talk time on the AirPods Pro, AirPods 2, AirPods 3, and AirPods Max? Did anybody ever try them for voice recognition software?

It varies by model. The linked article also discusses how to extend battery life.

As for voice recognition, probably the later models do better in terms of noise cancellation, but you can Google for reviews of whatever gen you have/are considering + whatever app you plan to use.
