I've mentioned the Giv-Mohr sling before for those at risk of shoulder subluxation. And of course we talk about soft foam and hard plastic cervical collars for neck support, as well as the Savant headrests for wheelchairs. Wheelchair user supports such as the Monoflex™, PivotFit™, and Stayflex™ also promote upper body stability.

However, some PALS suffer more generalized loss of strength where their upper bodies droop or fold in on themselves, essentially, even sometimes when they are still walking. I noticed that a fairly new orthosis, the Calibrace, which you can find on line, seems to have some research behind it and is eligible for insurance reimbursement (that is to say, it has a code; nothing is guaranteed) in ALS and Parkinson's. Of course, it is also available for [a significant amount of] cash. Obviously, it would fit into a certain progression window.

Best,
Laurie
