I am a 29 year old female who recently has just not felt myself. About 3 weeks ago both of my thumbs were very crampy and sore. It hurt to even type or use my cell phone. The pain went away. Two weeks ago both of my hands had a tingling feeling and my pinky and ring fingers were hurting. After googling(probably a bad idea) ALS came up. I have also had body wide muscle twitches. None of which are visible and they are not limited to one area. Randomly I will feel it in my leg or my shoulder, arm, back, etc... I went to my primary who said that my arms and hands were probably sore because of always carrying about my two children one of which is 5 months old and is constantly in my arm. She did blood work and it was all normal. I think she was looking for joint or muscle issues. My left wrist now hurts. The tingling is gone but occasionally my fingers will feel stiff in my left hand. The muscle twitches are still body wide. I usually only feel them while I am at rest not doing my daily activities. My left upper arm almost has the feeling as if I got a needle and is just a little sore. What does the early weakness feel like as I feel my strenght is still the same.

Read the stickies for this subforum. Your answer is there. What you wrote indicates that you did not read them like you were instructed to do when you first signed in

Elizabeth, you don't have any symptoms of ALS at all.

As to your question: ALS "weakness" doesn't feel like anything at all. There is no weak feeling, no exhaustion, no tingling, nothing. The muscle simply doesn't move. It is limp and useless: paralyzed. Your pains and aches are an excellent sign that point AWAY from ALS. Ignore Dr Google and any list of symptoms you find, they are always misleading.

Be sure to read the stickies.

You need to stay off of Dr. Google. Read the stickies completely and more then once if you have too. You don't have ALS symptoms even though I'm far from being a expert on it. Please just get ready for Christmas and just enjoy your kids. If you have more issues just see your primary physician. He can help you out.

I am sorry but I do not know where the stickies you are talking about are. Could you please be more specific so I can look? Thanks!

Right at the top of this page. If you click on - do I have ALS? Is this ALS? , it will take you to a list of posts. The very first one says sticky in bold letters

I am very very new to this and I'm sure I'm def doing this wrong I was just wondering where are these stickys everyone talks about thank you if anyone can answer

I have read on other peoples forums that their first symptom was body wide twitches. Has anyone else experienced this?

Your question:
1) indicates that you have NOT read the stickies, and
2) is answered in the sticky that Nikki kindly provided the link to in the post just prior to your last one

Please try again.

Body wide twitches do not happen at onset of ALS. They are generally in one area, maybe two. My husband had them in his tongue which he didn't even notice, and an arm. That's it. As this disease has progressed over THREE years, he has more of these fasciculations elsewhere. But ALS does not start out "body wide". And yes, please DO read the stickies - they will calm your fears.

Visible Muscle Twitching on outside of Pinky

THis is my second post. I have read all of the stickies. But after symptoms have not subsided and changed a little I wanted to ask if any one has experienced the same symptoms I am currently going through. It all started with tingling, pins and needles in both hands two months ago. following that i have had body wide twitching but primarily in the right upper arm. I also now have a visible muscle twitch on the outside of my hand near my pinky after i contract the muscle. My arm is sore and feels as if I have just worked out when i havent. I find myself constantly testing my strength vs the right arm and looking to see if atrophy is setting in. My primary doctor ran blood work for arthritis and all came back clean. I am probably going to follow up this week and see if I should see a specialist .
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

You may have read the sticky but do not seem to have understood it.
Pay attention to these bits:
Twitching
If you have muscle twitching and the internet says that is a symptom of ALS, pay attention. Twitching (fasciculations) is sometimes a symptom of ongoing ALS. It is seldom, if ever, a first symptom of ALS (especially if it is all over your body). Twitching is very common

Pain
If you have pain, aches, tingling, soreness, etc., these point away from ALS. ALS is a disease of the motor nerves, not the sensory nerves. There can be pain in ALS, but it is almost always well into the disease process.

"Looking to see if atrophy is setting in".
Stop LOOKING for symptoms! You are setting yourself up for anxiety induced symptoms, including all your body-wide twitching. You don't have anything that points to onset of ALS. Tingling, pins and needles, and soreness are not ALS. Testing your strength means nothing - in ALS onset, a muscle fails to function properly. The specialist you want to see should deal in anxiety.

Please listen to comments listed above Elizabeth. Thank you!
