Good morning,
I've read the rules before posting this. I'm 27 year old male. Back in July I woke up in AFIB, went to the hospital, was cardioverted chemically which didn't work, then electro cardioverted. Met with my cardiologist the next day and he wasn't concerned, had me go through my normal bi yearly check ups (I have a genetic heart defect, but this doesn't cause afib usually). He prescribed me a blood thinner to take for 4 weeks out of precaution.
2 days later began feeling "off" best way to describe it was slightly intoxicated feeling. Was clipping my toes on stuff as I walked, was swaying as I stood still.
I went to ER as recommended out of concern for blood thinner issues. They did a CT scan and MRI and came back fine. Went to Eye doctor, that was fine.

I dealt with it for about a month, then began to have some twitching. Started in left upper calf and right shoulder, within a week I was excessively twitching all across my body. I then had a stabbing pain in my right shin area, then left forearm and then right forearm a couple days apart. I met with a resident doctor who blamed it on my stress/anxiety. Recommended PT for balance and ear check up. Both came back fine. Have now been twitching for about 2 months and it has gotten somewhat better, but still have the uneasy off balance feeling.

About 2 weeks ago started getting floaters in my left eye, and they've increased to a level I haven't experienced before (sometimes 5-7 at a time along with a flash or two.

Also noted from Mid July when I had AFIB to early September I lost about 10% of my body weight, without trying, I was very anxious about everything, but hadnt experienced that before.

Do I push my doctor to refer me to neurology? Are these symptoms related or all random?

New floaters + flashes, you should be calling your ophthalmologist today for an appointment.

Your heart was obviously under stress and that can cascade into random pain/uneasiness/slight dizziness. Rapid unintended weight loss can do the same. So sleep, stress, nutrition, hydration, and bodywork are all worth considering in that context.

Start with the eyes, please, then I would return to your PCP for labs to help rule out anything systemic that should be addressed. But I don't think this is neurological. You can push for a neuro referral if need be down the road.

everything I’ve read that retinal thinning is a bio marker of als and could cause floaters, but the earliest noted in most studies was 120 days in.
This has helped reassure me some. I will set up an appointment tomorrow morning for this. Don’t have any weakness anywhere that I’ve noticed.
