After years of training in electronics (with a slide rule) and then going to B-school for an MBA, I learned a little math. Business accounting was particularly perplexing, with rules upon rules that could be interpreted different ways.
This is what I learned about math:
Ask a teacher what 2 plus 2 is, and he’ll answer 4.
Ask an engineer what 2 plus 2 is, and she’ll answer 4 point zero, zero, zero.
The scientist will say 2 plus 2 equals 4 times 10 to the zeroth power.
The accountant nods slightly, looks up the hallway, looks down the hallway, closes the door quietly with both hands and whispers, “What do you need it to be?”
