Hello all,

I have lurked around this forum for a little while and have read tons of threads and the stickies. I have been avoiding posting for quite some time. But here it goes.

It all started when I noticed some twitching in my calves. To which i saw my PCP about and she reffered me to a neuromuscular specialist. In the mean time of 2 weeks waiting for my appointment with the neuromuscular the twitching spread to my feet and then I was starting to twitch all over in random places (my back, arms, shoulders, belly, face, etc) but the calf and feet twitching are constant.

I finally get to the neuromuscular doc and he checks for babinsky sign which was negative. Then checks my deep tendon reflexes in my limbs and my arms are fine but when
he did my legs he said my left one is overactive. Then he says he thinks something Is going on in my thoracic spine and said I need to get an MRI on my brain and spine, but he said to get the brain done first because my insurance company would go crazy if he ordered both at the same time. He also ordered blood tests as well. I am currently waiting on the appointment for the MRI on the 20th and then I see him again on the 28th. Now I have noiticed that my right shoulder blade seemed more bony than usual when I went to scratch my back 3 days ago and I'm freaking out that it might be atrophy.

I am sorry for the lengthy post and I'm just looking some opinions. I should have never looked at Dr. Google.

Thank you.

It sounds like you’re in the midst of being evaluated. It’s premature to draw conclusions until you get all the data from that evaluation. And you’re seeing a neuromuscular disease specialist, which is great. You’ll have answers soon enough.

Localized nerve compression syndromes, including nerve root compression (radiculopahy) is far more likely than ALS. So the odds are in your favor.

In the meantime, sit tight and wait for the specialist to complete the evaluation. Try to keep busy with things and people you enjoy. Keep us posted after your evaluation is completed if you still have questions.

Thank you Karen for your speedy response. I will try to keep my mind off it as you have suggested. I will give updates if I have any news. Thank you.
