Hi all,
Since choking on food is happening more, and I don't think it's time yet to get a J-PEG, I am curious about the "cough assist" machines I have seen mentioned in some posts here.
My disease hit my phrenic nerve, thus have a weak diaphragm. And coughing is very weak. Two weeks ago, I...
Hi Joel, and to others in a similar situation,
As I had mentioned a few days ago, I have advanced CIDP, which is a sister disease of ALS. It has affected my autonomic system, including hitting the phrenic nerve with hypoxemia. And advanced CIDP, is similar to facing what you guys are faced...

Hello,
My uncle was diagnoised in India with ALS in April 2008. Last week, he was admitted to hospital and is on ventilator, according to people with him he is so weak that bi-pap is not helping.
My questions is: Should we ask for tracheostomy so that he can go home and be on vent...
I had fluoroscopy this week showing at least half my diaphragm is paralyzed. I will be having a tracheotomy Friday and use a ventilator at night. My pulmonary specialist feels this will help my daytime functioning. Have any of you had any experience in this area? I would be interested in hearing...

By Richard Robinson, Science Writer
Subcutaneous (under the skin) delivery of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) does not benefit people with ALS at a dose of 0.5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight, according to a large clinical trial whose...

As one who has endorsed technology and has a PEG and a Tracheostomy & Vent, I see the needless suffering people do. These devices are life savers and life enhancers and very easy to have done and deal with.

HI Gang,
Would anyone be willing to weigh in on a tracheostomy solely for the purpose of being able to suction secretion and phlegm, this is a huge issue for my mom and makes life very difficult. Anyone out there done this procedure for this purpose?
Blessings to you all.
Love,
Holly
