Below is something many of you may have already found while researching ALS. I was struck by the sheer logical approach this man had to dealing with the disease. I only wish my mother would have taken this approach, instead of fighting everything tooth and nail.

Good day, This is my first post.
I am fortunate in many things - two of which are: I do not suffer with a serious illness (I know that my weakness for chocolate chip cookies doesn't count) & an incorrigible sense of humour, and secondly, the privilege of having worked as a HOSPICE trained...

I took myself off Hospice February 29, 2008, because I was told a visit to the ALS clinic would not be paid for while on Hospice...

last year at this time our family was sailing along and everything was fine - i noticed mom's speech was a bit slurred when i was visiting my family - by december she could barely talk and was having trouble walking - now it is august, a year later and she is unable to talk, move on her own, and...
I am wondering, if one does not want a feeding tube, can he/she request to be transferred to hospice for palliative care when eating becomes very difficult ? This seems like a pieceful way out, as opposed to choking to death.
My wife is in 2nd year Med School.
Her class is currently doing sessions on palliative care and terminal illnesses.
The general stuff alone would cause most people in our situation to break down - but the other day her class was split up into groups of 20.
Students from each group were then...
Just a note to all the friends that "Granny" has made on here to let you know that heaven has a new angel today. Granny passed away peacefully in her sleep early yesterday after a brief stay in palliative care. My dad was sleeping beside her.
Our family is together this weekend to celebrate...
