    Breathing Test Numbers Questions

I had a clinic all day yesterday. Went through all the usual specialties. Long day as you all know! I have a copy of my breathing test results and was wondering what some of the numbers mean. The first column is FVC, FEV1, MFEP, PEF, FEF25, FEF50, FEF75, FVC IN, MIP and MEP. Second column...

    DPS - PEG Seurgon

I had my visit this morning to discuss getting the DPS (Diaphragm Pacing System) installed. For those who do not know this is where they surgically place electrodes on your diaphragm to stimulate the muscle. Wires come out of the side of your stomach and attach to a small box that controls the...

    MIP and MEP

So Tom made it to another ALS clinic visit. I can't help but wonder if it will be his last, his next one is scheduled for October. His decline seems to be gaining momentum, but who knows with this disease. Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you get MIP and MEP tests done along with FVC. Tom's...

fvc going up, mip and mep going down

The respiratory therapist recommended a BiPap, but the Neurologist didn't think he needed one. He has...

About two years ago I experienced extreme stiffness in my right pectoral muscle. I had it reoccur a few times over...

    How is this Happening?

Ralph's progression started in his left arm. He can still walk, very limited use of his hands and arms. still able to swallow and speak although his voice is getting weaker by the day. His breathing is what is going so fast. So fast that in 4 months his FVC went from 84% to 52% and his MIP...

    The ultimate story of hope

Let me first apologize. I know that I have not been on the forum over the last 3 months. Not a day has gone by that I have not thought of my "forum family" and have continued to keep all of it's members in my prayers. Many have visited me on FB and asked me how I was and relayed everyone's...

    My wife's decline in FVC...

She is a 32 y/o female. Just last October (when she was diagnosed with ALS) her FVC number was at 75%. Went to 57% in Feb. Got back from pulmo this afternoon and it is at 31% now. Here diaphragm readings were (MIP/MEP) were +15/+25 roughly... Anything I should be on the watch for at this...
