I had a VA SAH housing grant approved a few months ago, but have had a difficult time finding contractors who are qualified and will work with the VA. I live in Cypress, Texas and would appreciate any positive information any of you may have.
I went out for my usual wheelchair ride today and had a great time. The weather was glorious. I have attached a few pictures from the ride so you get an idea of where I go. It is a bike/pedestrian path that I take for about 4.5 miles to halfway up Vail pass.

My mother died a year ago and my step-father has ALS. He's lived alone for a year, able to transfer himself, cook, bathe, etc. He lives in a small town in Indiana and I live in Minneapolis. I am his POA.
He got a UTI 2 months ago, lost some weight (down to 145 lbs.) and got weak. He no longer...
VA has required the loss of ability to walk to qualify for a wheelchair-carrying vehicle grant. This is often too late for PALS. Thanks to a new friend in Enumclaw, Wash, and widow of a PALS, and her politicking with VA, they will soon allow immediate grants to vets with ALS.

I just got a letter from the VA telling me that a review of my file, mandated on Feb 11, 2014determined that I am eligible for a Specially Adapted Housing grant. Seemed odd since I had not even applied...
