    Am I Losing it?

Woke up this morning to a small sound that sounded like it came from our closet. Then I heard a man's voice whisper "I'm fine". I don't know if it was because I was in the no man's land between wake and sleep or in a Xanax haze or maybe just coming out of a dream. I am not a believer or a...

    One Week In

My daughter went back home today so this is my first day truly alone. I am trying to look at this as the beginning of a new life rather than an ending. Doing OK so far. Got Tom's ashes back from the mortuary yesterday and rather than being difficult as I though it would be, it brought a feeling...

    Brand New Free Equipment

Ironically, the VA delivered the power chair and the assisted speech device from TalkToMe Techologies yesterday and Tom passed away yesterday evening. So...I have a Permobil M300 Power Chair and an assisted speech device that have never been used. The assisted speech device can be used with your...

    Gone

Tom passed away yesterday evening. He passed peacefully in his favorite lounge chair. Though I will miss him dearly I am grateful that the Lord saw fit to take him before he suffered the worst ravages of ALS. Thank you all for your support these last few months

    Does CO2 Buildup Cause Confusion?

A few days ago, Tom told me he woke up and didn't know where he was. I didn't pay much attention because he has done this in the past...long before ALS. But then Friday night he woke me up and asked me if I heard music. I did not and my hearing is much better than his. Yesterday morning he tried...

    Equipment

Finally the VA signed the POs for the power wheel chair and an assistive speech device. Supposedly the assistive speech device has been sent. I emailed the vendor on the wheel chair to find out how long it is going to take and got no response as of yet. I'm wondering if it was a co-incidence...

    Mixed Signals

I am getting some mixed signals from Tom. He has never been one to express his feelings so he wouldn't necessarily say what he feels. We have in the past discussed that when he feels like it is all too much and he is ready to go, he can stop with the feeding tube and allow nature to take it's...

    Sleeping with a PEG tube

Does anyone sleep on their stomach with a PEG tube. Tom was always a stomach sleeper. Since he got his PEG tube he has been sleeping on his back with varying degrees of success. If he rolls over on his side because he has lost so much weight he puts pressure on the nerve and his foot gets tingly.

    Not Enough Calories

Tom had a PEG tube put in 3 weeks ago. The dietician and the speech therapist both encouraged him to take as much by mouth as possible. The dietician wants him to have 2000 calories a day, half from regular meals and half from Ensure, either by mouth or by tube. He started out well, drinking 3...

    Chin Strap

Does anyone use a chin strap with their bi-pap that stays put? Tom has a full face mask. His mouth falls open when he sleep. He says the Astral 150 "is smoother" if he can keep his mouth closed. We asked the respiratory therapist for a chin strap but we can't seem to get the one she gave us to...
