Things you'd like to say to people, professionals, and relatives about ALS

I was diagnosed almost six years ago. I very rarely look at these forums because some people need attention. Honestly I was active duty military when I was diagnosed. I've had four complete neuro workups before being diagnosed and retired. My best advice is to take each day as it comes. My...

    Trouble sleeping

I was reading these forums about a month ago and they were talking about the air mats that are used to prevent bedsores and how it was helpful for her son. I ordered one and THANK YOU whoever suggested it. For me it prevents my joints from getting as stiff and really helps me sleep. They can be...

Adverse reaction to h1n1 flu shot

I don't know how to say this in a PC way but for my self and everyone I know that have ALS the only constant is that we are all very active and not generally the type to go to the Dr. unless ordered to. Everyone I've met with ALS are not the type prone to over reaction to things as the symptoms...

Hi Skipper, Overall ALS isn't anything more than what you make of it. I think that there is something to learn from this experience and I have seen growth from those around me. Don't get me wrong there are some rough days but overall we just roll with the punches. Everyday is a chance to...

    Prayers

Hi, I retired from the Military last year due to being diagnosed with ALS. I did have to remind myself what I used to teach my Airmen. I used to say "Life is a shit sandwich, its up to you whether or not you like the taste". I find myself looking to this during the darker hours. I hate onions...

    Medical Tests (rant again)

Hi, I am new to this forum. I was diagnosed in March 2010. Being active duty I had to submit to all of the testing as well as being the Drs. teaching aid for everyone on the floor about Babinski reflex and other oddities. I did feel like a Guinea Pig. But at the same time for health providers...

    It's not always ALS

Hi I'm new to the forum. Good point I had a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) about 1 1/2 years ago. The only constant to ALS is that each case is individual. For my own treatment I've found that the DOs and Nurse Practitioners seem to be more helpful due to their holistic approach.
