    new awaiting diagnosis

My posts speak for themselves but I do hate it when they are mischaracterized. For the record, I have had exactly one interaction with paula-jane (not "several") and it was cordial, not "angry and condescending." Here it is in its entirety: Quote: Originally Posted by paula-jane I know that...

    Bad night...

This is a perfect example of the recent problems with this forum. Jamie and Joel, renee doesn't have ALS--she's 24 and her doc has told her that her failure to take her thyroid meds for 9 months is likely her problem. And she, young and relatively healthy, is hanging out in an ALS forum...

    new awaiting diagnosis

Cindy -- Please read the previous two posts from PALS. They make the point I have been making to you in PM's. The nervous nellies who don't even have ALS, who pass out incorrect information as if they're the oracle of Delphi and are constantly having their feelings hurt are running off the...

EMG conduction block and acetylcholine antibodies

Do you think the study was done incorrectly? The results are no secret--it's pretty much accepted that a small percentage of PALS will test positive for MG when they don't have it. You can google as well as I can if you want to know more. Or just ask your niece's doctor (assuming he's a...

    acne from ALS?

My money's on some sort of reaction to the supplements--they seem to be much favored by many PALS and their ingredients are almost totally unregulated. Depending on where she's getting them, she shouldn't even trust the ingredient list on the label. Acne is certainly not a symptom of ALS I've...

EMG conduction block and acetylcholine antibodies

Actually, while PALS's reflexes are brisk early in the disease (during the diagnostic process), as limbs weaken and atrophy, reflexes eventually largely disappear. Quite frankly, FWIW, I've never heard that conduction block is associated exclusively with diminished reflexes. Also, it's pretty...

EMG conduction block and acetylcholine antibodies

I don't understand where you're going with your comments. It's probably true that the majority of PALS don't have conduction block and it's certainly true that the majority don't test positive for AChR antibodies, but conduction block on one pair is not at all unusual, falling well within the...

EMG conduction block and acetylcholine antibodies

Yes, in 2003. Which I know seems odd since this forum seems to have recently turned into the I'm-scared-I've-got-it-but-my-doc-sez-I-don't board.

EMG conduction block and acetylcholine antibodies

I had conduction block in one of 20 pairs (apparently not considered significant) and my AChR antibodies were negative. I have read, though, that AChR antibodies will, uncommonly, give a false positive reading in ALS.

    new awaiting diagnosis

You need to be seen at an ALS center and I would be careful about taking advice/opinions from people about ALS who do not have ALS. Presentations can vary greatly and even general neurologists don't see enough of the disease to reliably diagnose it. No one who hasn't examined you can give you...
