    diaphragm spasms

I do get these spasms. They used to be much worse, but the Baclofen has helped a lot. When it happens, it is difficult to take a deep breath and I feel pain when I try to move. It eventually goes away. I don't have them very often now, but they do happen every now and then. When they first...

    Fluctuating hand weakness?

Hi Kathy, I have similar problems, especially with my thumbs. From what I understand, mine is from the spasticity, not weakness, although it feels like weakness. Before I started taking Baclofen, my thumbs would actually draw inward towards my palms, and it was very difficult to do anything...

    Baclofen

Hi Suzannah, I have noticed the same thing. I had been taking 10 mg in the morning and 10 mg at night for several years. I began to feel that I needed to add a little more during the day, and my doctor suggested the same thing after his examination. I started by adding 5 mg, and I noticed...

    PLS to ALS

Hi, There is a wonderful ALS clinic in Charlotte - part of Carolina Medical Center or carolinashealthcare.org. It is called Carolina's Neuromuscular Disease/ALS-MDA Center. I have actually seen the term "PLS Clinic" used there.

    Weird symptom

Hi, I have had that buzzing, humming feeling from the beginning. I felt it in my legs again just yesterday and often wake up with the feeling in my neck. I go to an ALS specialist that called it a quiver that is associated with spasticity. The baclofen has controlled it most of the time now...

Hi Mike, I experience the same thing. If I get the slightest symptoms of an illness (virus, etc.), my PLS symptoms get out of control! I often notice the increase in my PLS symptoms (and wonder what is going on) before I realize I am sick.

    Walking and knee position....

I am very thankful for everyone on this site. I have learned so much from you! I wanted to ask about a problem with walking that I have had lately. It started a few months ago. My right ankle gives way when I am walking which causes my leg to buckle. I am pretty sure that it is not from...

    symptoms worse when sick?

I agree with everyone else. I am not often sick, but the slightest illness makes the spasticity go crazy. I also agree with the effects from stress and cold. I hope that you are feeling better now, Wendy.

New to the forum..trying to cope as a caregiver and help my husband

My doctor is an ALS/motor neuron specialist who is always up-to-date on research. Last May, he mentioned that there had been a study that revealed many ALS patients had low levels of acetyl-l-carnitine (I think it is actually called something else on the blood test) and taking the supplement...

    Question about Fasciculation’s

I too have had them since the beginning. They seem a bit better now but are still there. The first neurologist saw them and along with an abnormal clinical exam suggested that I may have ALS. He suggested I see an ALS specialist. I also had an abnormal neurological exam with the specialist...
