My dad is currently doing a round of ivig. If its not MMN, which is unlikely its PMA, the frail arm variation. If your uncle trys the ivig, i would say make sure he stays hydrated and takes it easy the days he has the treatment. Also it caused my dads red blood count to drop. That was caught by chance during followup blood work. Keep your eyes open for any reactions. Most are unlikely. Best of luck.
