Mike, I've posted my situation in another thread and you have described my speech issues almost identically to how I would, better than I can articulate it myself.
The thing is, no one else seems to hear this but me. Is that the case with you as well?
I've had the works diagnostically and haven't gotten an answer. Even convinced a friend of mine who does EMGs to do one on my tongue (it was negative). I too have employed the services of the dreaded Dr. Google many times. However, what I've learned, and what much smarter and more experienced people than I are already telling you and myself, is that bulbar ALS just doesn't start that way.
But then, what the hell is it? I can share some more of my experience with you if you'd like.
