  • Good morning, all. I am a first timer here at the forum. I was diagnosed w/ als a little more than 2 yrs ago. Progression started slowly and i was able to maintain a "positive " outlook on things. The past 8 months things have progressed more rapidly, to the point where i can no longer walk, yet i can support my weight (260) if someone helps me to a standing position. I have very limited / no use of my arms and hands. My voice is very slurred, yet not completely incomprehensible . Needless to say, my outlook is not so positive, as much. Here is my first, of many, questions yet to come: (1) what are ways any of you have been able to feel more productive in life? I feel like all i can do is watch my wife, who is also my main caregiver, run herself into the ground everyday. She works fulltime plus... She is a kindergarten teacher. We have 2 boys ages 7 & 9. I can help with homework but talking is becoming more difficult. How about being productive outside the home?
