I know at least one PALS around here was in this trial. It was a Phase II study planning to enroll 213 PALS. However, an independent data and safety monitoring board (DSMB) looked at the interim data, as always happens in a real trial, and recommended ending the trial because it wasn't helping, and pneumonia was occurring at a higher rate in the treated patients.

It is still on the market for several other indications, like lupus and infantile spasms, and still being tested in others.

I agree, Vincent. My husband tried Ibudilast, which is in a phase 3 study (I believe), and it shot his liver enzymes to 268. He's now been off it for three weeks and his enzymes are already down to 160. Right to try can be risky and cause more harm than good in some cases.

The effects of elevated liver enzymes for my husband was a huge bloated belly. He looked like he had a beach ball under his shirt and we didn't correlate the two until his stomach started going down after stopping the drug.
