Hi Steve, My son and I are headed to Denver this weekend and I wanted to see if you had any issues with the altitude. I'm sure since you live there you are accustomed to the lack of oxygen at higher elevations but we are coming from flat-as-a-pancake Indiana. My FVC is in the high 50s to low...

Power Chair Delivery Today - Advice Appreciated

I have a Quantum Edge 2.0 and I am more comfortable around the house and office with the chair set to P3 and the speed down to two bars being displayed. This minimizes the lurching and sudden quick turns that cause me to gouge the walls and doorways. Not sure how that would translate to another...

PALS roll call Wednesdays (or whenever) PALS ONLY PLEASE

Little late checking in but have been really busy at work. We have an even busier weekend coming up starting tonight with ALS Night at Victory Field where the AAA Indianapolis Indians play baseball. I'm honored to have been asked to throw out the first pitch and can't wait. Tomorrow is a...

    Clonus question

I'm the same way with clonus but not when I'm driving, thankfully. It's worse sitting in the shower and when trying to get dressed. I had issue with clonus type spasms at night in my legs and started taking a low dose of Valium before bed. It definitely helps but knocks me out. Wouldn't be good...

Wife has "likelihood of ALS" diagnosis

Sorry to welcome you here but glad you found the forums. There is a wealth of experience and knowledge to be found. My path was very similar to your wife's. A neurologist sent me to a neurosurgeon after an MRI showed disc issues in my neck but the neurosurgeon disagree with that diagnosis and...

PALS roll call Wednesdays (or whenever) PALS ONLY PLEASE

Renovations begin at the end of the month. Yay! Met with GI yesterday regarding feeding tube and came out more confused about what to do. Time to search the forums for others experiences. I love this place!

PALS roll call Wednesdays (or whenever) PALS ONLY PLEASE

Ready for storms this afternoon and freezing temps tomorrow here in Indy. Ugh! Received the approvals from Voc Rehab on Friday and the home modifications should begin later this month! Going to see a GI for a feeding tube consult on Tuesday. Hopefully respiratory numbers aren't too low for the...

    Wheelchair

You might check with the ALS Association. I've heard that they can petition the National ALSA for a certificate to cover the seat elevation. The wheelchair manufacturer might also cover some of the expense. I would ask your DME provider if they or the manufacturer can cover some of those costs...

PALS roll call Wednesdays (or whenever) PALS ONLY PLEASE

Still here. Fighting with Vocational Rehab to get our home modification started sooner rather than later. 7 months in and still haven't received final approval for contractor to start. Ugh!!!

    Vans - New or Used

Hi Kim. We just took delivery of our van on Monday. We looked for a couple of months before we found what we wanted that fit in our budget. We ended up buying a certified pre-owned Dodge Grand Caravan from our local mobility dealer, Superior. Braun had the van at their plant doing the conversion...

    Loss of use of limb

The way my neurologist explained it to me was if it takes 200 neurons to walk and they begin dying off one at a time, walking will become gradually more difficult. With 199 of the 200 gone, walking could still be possible but a struggle. When that last neuron goes, walking goes with it. Based on...

    Power Wheelchair Providers

As of January 1, NuMotion was the only provider in-network with UHC in my area. I was fortunate to receive my chair from Wheelchair Professionals, AKA National Seating and Mobility, before they lost their in-network status at the end of the year. They are the DME provider represented at clinic...

    Wheelchair Choice

Hi Kim. I just received my Quantum Q6 Edge 2.0 on Thursday of last week. I had a Permobil C300 from the ALS Association loan closet prior to receiving my chair so I'm familiar with both. Both have the zero turn radius. The footprint for the Q6 seems larger than the C300 especially when you add...

Another calling all PALS thread! ( PALS only post please)

I just completed the cane/rollator/wheelchair transition. It took about a year but it was time with several falls in the past month. I had my wheelchair eval about 6 weeks ago and we're battling with insurance to get it approved. In the meantime, I took delivery on a Permobil C300 from the ALS...

Regular mini van for PWC?? Help!

Hi CarolSue. I just received a PWC from the ALSA loan closet until mine gets here towards the end of the month. We also picked out a van yesterday but it won't be ready until about the same time. We have a 6 foot portable ramp that we are using to load the loaner into our current van which works...
