    ER for bowel movement?

I'm so glad to hear a lift is coming. You can figure it out from watching youtube videos. I think the PT showed us once, but we refreshed by watching youtube.

    ER for bowel movement?

This is awful. I am so sorry that you're stuck without a lift. I do think it's worth a visit to the ER, and refusing to go home until there's a plan in place to safely move you. The last time Dad was in the hospital, we said we can't take him home until we have a way to suction him. Have you...

    CALS Roll Call Continued

Oh vltsra, I know how overwhelming it can be! Even with both Mom and I trying to cover what needed to be done, it was crazy. I was amazed at the number of people in and out of their house. Thankfully they were able to stay in their home by adding a platform and lift in the garage. We used a...

Thoughts on When to Get Hospice

Make sure you get your power wheelchair before you sign up for hospice. I would also call ALS to see if they can provide an adjustable hospital bed and a power lift. I would recommend to get any equipment you will need first.

    CALS Roll Call Continued

Oh geneice, I am so sorry to hear that you're dealing with both cancer and ALS! On one hand, I'm so thankful to live in an age when we have answers or medication for so many things that used to be life threatening. On the other hand, I get so very frustrated with so much of the medical...

    Brian Flies Free

It's a weird thing, to grieve, but to also to be glad that your loved one is free. The love you and Brian had for each other was obvious through your posts. I am so sorry for your loss. You did the most loving thing for him, to honor his wishes.

    Van’s

We have a 2016 Town and Country Rollx conversion with a ramp that automatically deploys from the passenger slide door. For loading and unloading I could park the van next to the garage and drop the ramp. I could basically get the end of the ramp to drop at the garage door. We had a lift...

    Choices

Dad's hospital bed was in the living room of my parents home. The room was full of equipment that we needed. He died there on Jan. 30. It was actually amazing how quickly we got it back to a living room - within a couple days. ALS was very quick to pick up the equipment after we contacted...

My Dad was diagnosed a year ago and I’m looking for some support

Have you contacted your local ALS chapter? In our area they offered 18 hours a month of help. We scheduled that help for two hours, two mornings a week to help with baths, grooming, and ROM exercises. So it basically gave us 9 mornings a month of help that ALS provided free of charge. The...

    CALS Roll Call Continued

Hugs, Sue. I pray for comfort for everyone who lost a spouse / life partner. Oh my goodness, Wishmobbing! I am itching for a vacation. Enjoy! A week or so after the funeral we moved home. Everything is out of the rental now, just have the final clean up, which is scheduled for next Monday...

I am so sorry for the loss of your wife, but also thankful for both of you that it was peaceful and that you were there holding her. I'm sure it meant everything to be surrounded by your love in the end.
