  • Hi Sherry,
I am so sorry you have to go through all this as well. The people on this forum have been so kind to me and supportive. They are more then willing to help if you have any questions. I'll be praying for you. Feel free to drop a line anytime and tell me more about yourself. Kim
I talked with your sister, Barbara, last night. She is a wonderful person who speaks so highly of you and loves you so very much. Thank God for sisters, I have one named Kate that is my greatest support emotionally. I have nationwide on my cell phone if you would like I will call you sometime.
Hello :) I live in Western KY but go to Vandy since it is the closest ALS clinic to me. This site is wonderful. I have learned so much from everyone.
Very nice. Personable. Helpful. Young, thin man. He is an associate professor at Vandy and ALS is a specialty of his. He knows the disease. When he has come across me when I've visited other clinics for things, he stopped and said hi and asked how I was. I've had a lot of Dr in my life that would have waved or nodded at most and just kept going. Once you see him you will be scheduled for the a quarterly ALS clinic visit. You see all of your doctors that day so you don't have to come and go and see them all. A nice time while we were there. Donuts and coffee in the morning. Live pretty music around lunch. Box lunches too for you and those that came with you.
The visit was great. Dr Donofrio is very kind and compassionate. Dr Charles Clarke is my co-physician at Vanderbilt. He is great also. By all means get into the ALS Clinic at Vandy. Dr D set it up and from what I hear it is wonderful. I go in Aug for my first visit to the clinic. They have it set up for us to go every 3 months. Glad to meet you. My home phone is 931 648-8942 is you want to talk sometime. My wife is from Thailand so if she answers, she will have a foreign accent. Dr D did confirm my ALS diagnosis. I like your name sunewun......I used to watch the sun when I was in the Air Force at a couple of the AF solar observatories.......Take care Sherry........cheers.....fp
Sherry please call me whenever you come to Mabank to see your sister. I would love to meet you and your sis. I really don't know anyone personally (alive!) with ALS and this is a pretty lonely journey. Sending hugs.
I would love to talk with your sister in Mabank. It is a very small town. Give her my number.
Sherry, we are all in this together no matter where we are. But if you get to Mabank, I want to personally meet you. I am still mobile, thank the good Lord.
call me at 903 880 2519. I will support you in Mabank TX with the great ALS clinic in Dls.

I apologize for the delay in responding! It stinks to have to here, however, this is the most amazing group of folks that you will ever find! The information and support I've found on this forum is such a blessing! Hugs and thoughts being sent your way!

Hi! My name is Kim and my father who is 77 was just diagnosed with ALS this spring. He lives 1/2 mile from us in Central Illinois. However, he's been staying with my sister and her family since Memorial weekend. He has had two appointments now with a ALS specialist in Dallas. My dad said the Dr. is terrific. My dad is a veteran and is trying to get them to pay for Ritulek and is also going to participate in some clincal trials. He drinks Ensure between meals. Write me and tell me about yourself. Kim
I am just trying to figure out how to post to the different forums. I was just diagnosed....at least I think I am diagnosed. The Dr who did the emg said he thought I had als, though it was not totally conclusive and the Dr. I saw yesterday said he was almost 100 percent certain that it was als and is now sending me to the als specialists in Vandy. Im kind of stunned and still trying to tell myself that it was overdoses of statins or anything else but this. He (the Dr.) said it wasnt statins but how can he tell since I have only had normal blood tests and the cpk test was flubbed by the lab. I have drop foot on my left leg and both legs are kinda weak. Everything else seems to be working ok so far though I get tired really fast. I am not usually a complainer so sorry if this sounds like a whine...Just trying to get though the shock.
