  • st123 - thinking of you and your family at this difficult time. It was so quick . . . So sorry.
    Sharlene,
I'm sorry to hear about your dad! I'm glad you were able to be with him and were such a caring daughter in his final days! Our prayers are with you and your family.

Once my posts get done being moderated a couple more should show up! Last couple of days have been frustrating...

Again, condolences on the loss of your dad.

    Jen
Sharlene, I'm so sorry. He left so quickly Dear! Hugs to you and all who love him. May God comfort and guide you all.
Oh Sharlene, I'm so sorry to hear that... I hope he's comfortable. Praying for peace for you and your Mom to get through this... It's weird, but I'm not afraid at all of going, just worried about those I'll be leaving, especially my kids. I guess a state of grace? Don't know. Hugs...
Sharlene, just wanted to check in and let you know that I'm thinking of you... hope your Dad is stable and feeling ok.
Well, shopping around means more work for you and, if your dad likes his nurse . . . I'd say stay. The woman loved Hospice of Michigan but she lived in the Macomb area and perhaps it was the specific nurses/doctors in her area that she loved. But, the main reason she chose them was her husband had a ventilator and no other hospice would come to the house unless she disconnected the vent which, of course, meant her husband wouldn't be able to breathe. Hospice of Mich is the only one that would help her with the ventilator on her husband.
Sorry to hear about your trip to the hospital . . . . Things are doing good here - still mobile. Project Freedom. That was the name! Is that a 'good' system? Rather than the permanent rails in the ceiling? I was thinking of contacting them to 'see a set-up' and how it all works. Perhaps it's advantageous to pay them for 'their' set-up in another room (I understand they only do one room for free and I thought I may need a set-up in my bedroom and bathroom). At my support group a woman mentioned that you need to be careful engaging hospice before you get your pwc. Not sure if your dad has his chair 'in custody' yet. Not sure the intricacies of that statement, but Simone from ALS of Mich understood what she was saying. the women had a TON of trouble and calls getting the pwc for her husband because she called hospice too soon. The woman also had very high praises for 'Hospice of Michigan'. (I guess there are several hospice programs.)
Hope all is well with you and your Dad. I heard something from ALSA (need to go locate it) regarding a group that will install 'rails' in one room for any ALS patient for 'lifting' the patient. Are you guys all set with the lifts/rails for your Dad or should I look for the website for you?
st123 - spoke with ALSA of Mich and their support group (meets in Troy next Thurs) will have someone from Mobility Works there to speak and answer questions. Hope you're doing well and your Dad is feeling better.
st123 - just talked to ALS of Mich last week about vans (and other stuff). They love to work with mobilityworks.com for vans. This company may do all the work for you or ALS of Mich may facilitate with mw.com for you (I talked to Simone). ALS of Mich workw with this company because they 'know' ALS. ALS of Mich also told me that Vets 'get the whole package' (no, I'm not a vet :-(. So, MW.com may be very helpful in working with you as they know VA will pay for the 'whole shebang'. Last Wed mw.com had a van available on-line that Simone said 'everyone wants' (a 2010 or 2011 for $54,000). I know you have a lot on your plate and if someone else will do the work for you - all the better. :) Good luck to you.
UGH is right, so very sorry to hear that. I hope it's resolved quickly. Do let us know how it goes please. All the best dear.
