  • You've got to fix this Home Modification thing. After the VA looks at your house, you should have had several contractors visit you within a week or two, so that the winning bid can start ordering his materials just a few weeks, maybe a month, after the initial VA visit to your house.

Did you get a satisfactory bed and power chair yet? You have the vehicle purchased? --Mike
Good to hear from you, Ginger, as always.
How's the housing mod coming along?
Funny how the world can turn around a can of Ensure. :)
Hi there Toots! Lily seems just fine but has a doctor appt tomorrow just to make sure. Thanks for checking on her! How are you doing Dana Pie? ;)
I agree - this is an awesome forum for all of us. I wish for you peace of mind and heart during the next few days - always really but especially now. I hope this year brings to all our vets an easier time securing their benefits from the VA!!! Thank you for the note. It means a lot to mean!!

Merry Christmas my Dana! Lily is doing very well Thanks! Let's have a great 2012 shall we Sweetness? ;) Love you!
I would go back to Univ of Md but hope I never have to. I really don't know how many the Dr, performed. My dad's birthday was December 4th, boy was he hard headed. It seems this disease only effect the good ones, the ones who have worked their whole lives, took care of their families. My dad was a Balto City Cop for 42 years and only was retired 5 years, 3 of which was with ALS :(
Also, most insurance company's won't pay for the Peg if you can still eat. Don't tell anyone he can still eat at all, even apple sauce or Ice cream. You don't want to wait too long to get the PEG, they have to do the surgery fast, like 20 minutes, they are afraid they will not be able to get the breathing tube back out and he will be stuck with it. Not much pain at all for my dad, he did not use it right away, still ate apple sauce and ice cream. The Peg made things soo much better, it did not take him forever to eat, he would also crush his pills and mix them with a little water and put it in the tube followed by water. He also got alot more needed calories. Where on the eastern shore do you live, just curious ??
Dad was 68 when he passed, He could no longer talk and as you know had the PEG. He went to Hopkins who referred him to Univ of Md Specialty Hospital, ALS?clinic 601 South Charles Street (410)547-8500
Univ of Md Dept of Neurology/dr. Russell 22 South Greene St, Balto (410)706-6689. He also has his PEG put in there. I wish you and your family Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Any info I can give you don't hesitate to ask. As you know it started in his throat and worked it's way down. Dad still drove til the day he passed.
Heck no, don't have time to be a Pi, tonight I am the pooper scooper, since my dummy dog won't act right...
    Good morning Ginger,

How are you & your husband faring? Just wanted you to know that you both are being kindly thought of. Things are getting a less frenetic now - a few more things demanding attention, but most of the big things are finished.

Please stay in touch, and let me know if I can be of any help.

    Love to you both.
    Phil
Hi Ginger, don't worry about typing the obituary, I was able to find it online and posted a link on the come for tea thread. I wish I lived closer, I'd drive down, but too much to do around here. Not that I'd trust my car anyway. Sounds like you have some good friends putting up all your decorations! Merry Christmas!
Ginger, thank you so much for letting me know of this... if you think it's ok, I'll post the service time at our tea party thread so they all know about it as well. Please think about coming over to join us there as well, I see Marta has already invited you, and there's always room for another chair at Aly's table!
I'll let her Tea friends know the time (Eastern Time I assume). Thank you for your kindness G. Pie. Come to Tea sometime. Lots of Ann's friends there and a great group of people!
