    Talking with family about ALS

I am hoping the group can give me some advice on talking with my husband and family about ALS. I am not diagnosed but ALS runs in my family and my symptoms are getting more and more obvious. Soon I will have to start answering questions from my family. On one side, I don’t want to worry...

    t.e.n.s

Hi Steve, I was in Llangollen for a couple of days only. I have not yet tracked down any relatives in Wales but I know that some of my ancestors came from Swansea and Cardiff areas - or al least left for the Americas from there.

    t.e.n.s

I am not sure how to hide locations; but I have to ask...why would anyone be upset that you live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet? I was only lucky enought to visit Wales for 3 days but they are some of my most cherished memories.

    Question for Jamie

Thanks Cindy, Its nice to know that I am not completely crazy! I hit a point of overload; I can logically understand that all doctors are not bad and some of them even know something but I have just gotten so angry and frustrated. I don't think my GP would very much like to see me in the...

    Question for Jamie

@#&(&* doctors! I am so fed up with my GP! I am boycotting doctors for the month of October. I know that sounds really weak - but I need a break. If my diagnosed is really ALS, a month is not going to make a big differencce in my condition and it might just reduce my anxiety! My last...

    problem editing profile

Hi, I was just tryting to update my profile to change it from "I have been diagnosed with ALS" to "I am in the process of being diagnosed with ALS" and "I am interested in ALS" and I received an error both times asking for the diagnosis date. Not a big bug... Pythia

Suggestions for hiding shakes and twitches?

I have some pretty shaky and twitchy hands and feet. I am trying to conceal all my symptoms from my family until I have a diagnosis. It is becoming increasingly hard to blame it all on too much coffee! I have found that I can hide some of the shakes and twitches by always hanging onto...

    ALS Concerns

I made my first post similar to this last week. I am still scared, but no longer terrified. The people on this forum are really great - I am sure someone can tell you more about ALS and the symptoms. Good luck with the EMG - I have to wait several weeks for insurance approval to have one...

    EMG vs Insurance obstacles

How does "chewing troubles" look like?

Thanks for the information! I might be jumping the gun on an ALS clinic or a MDA - I have not even had my first EMG yet. My thoughts have been racing and very scattered since my doctors visit last week....panic is a good word! I feel foolish worrying about money at such a time, but I can't...

How does "chewing troubles" look like?

First my GP said neuropathy; then go to a chiropracter who made the headaches and tingling worse; after a year of wrangling with the insurance company have x-rays and MRIs...the radiologist thinks its disk compression - off to the neurosurgeon; well no he says, it looks muscular in nature...

    In Limbo

Strong is not listed as an ALS clinic or center on the alsa.org web site but they have a wonderful reputation. I want to start researching the current research on ALS; does anyone know of a good place to start? Thanks, Pythia

    Sandy, we need an update

Dear Ann Marie, This brings me back nightmares of the punits square in biology class! This site explains it much better than I could: http://anthro.palomar.edu/mendel/mendel_2.htm Basically, if there is a genetic component to ALS, then skipping a generation is possible if the genetic traits...

    Self Guilt over ALS

... I am sorry ... this is really not my fault ... I might have gone a bit too far ... It was my speculation ... I tried ... I probably should have said .... I really feel the guilt .... I hate myself ...if I could forgive myself .... I remember sympathising ... I probably should have ...Just...
