  • Hi Alfonso--I certainly hope your weekend is peaceful. Hope your doctors figure out what's wrong, or better yet, you show real improvement. All is well here! Ann
    Hello Alfonso,
I really appreciate your concern. I have to say that as my hospice plays out, it helped me to realize my dear nurse has been an ICU nurse until recently and still thinks in terms of healing, as opposed to making the end easier. She and I talked Friday, and tomorrow I'll see her again. Meanwhile, Phil can stop me and give me his input--I told him for my current situation, he's in charge.

Dad's really improving, Alfonso. I underestimated him, I think. He's in rehab but they all think he's heading home.

How are you doing? How is your wife coping with all of your problems? I hope you can speak openly. Take good care, Ann
Hi Alfonso, I am doing better and Dad left the hospital and went to a rehab place. He sounds very down, which likely is due to knowing his autonomy is slipping away, and living on his own has ended, I think.
Ann...who hopes that you are doing well. As is Olimpia as well as your wife!
Oh, too bad you had to work rather than walk! I'm very glad that you can walk and also can do your work, however. Funny how we see both sides about work. Phil plans to retire at the end of the year, and that means no more announcing, "Oh, have to go to school tomorrow." every Sunday night. He doesn't work in a school; it's a childhood saying.

I am actually losing my voice, but through the throat and vocal chords. And I didn't do any recording for speech recognition software, as I was counting on not hanging around this long. It will be alright, whatever happens. Hope your day is great! Ann
Nice to hear about you! Don't wear out weak fingers by typing, please, Alfonso. So, what did you buy, anything?
Tell me about you and your family, Alfonso. I would enjoy learning if typing is easy for you! Do you still make it out and about, or are you at home by necessity?
Alfonso, I assume you've had your muscle biopsy. Has the test result reached you yet--or do you have an appointment made with your doctor? When you do find out, I would like to know.

I hope your weekend is peaceful,
    Ann
Hey Alfonso. I read your newest post and like the others on here, I'm not seeing ALS in your story. Your symptoms are simply too widespread at once to be ALS. That is not the way ALS typically presents itself. In my opinion, it sounds like something post-viral autoimmune. It's a bit baffling that your EMG's are negative, though. If you have true muslce atrophy, your EMG should be dirty. That atrophy might not be muscle atrophy . . . but rather . . . connective tissue being destroyed. Let your docs sort it out and take solace in the fact that it doesn't sound life-threatening. Take care and let me know if there is anything else I can do.
Alfonso, I pray you wake one morning very soon to observe the symptoms lessening, and this ordeal is viral but over. You have shown great patience in waiting since your earlier thread. I lift you and your family before the Lord.
    Love,
    Ann
I can't believe I told you I'm "sorry you have no ALS diagnosis"! Yikes. I didn't mean that at all. Alfonso, I hope you have a treatable problem and the cause is learned soon... Your symptoms are serious, and it occurred to me to ask you if you and your wife are talking about this. When my husband was young (around 30 or less), he had reason to believe it likely he had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, but didn't tell me until the results came back, negative. His concern about his health was not of course known by me, but I knew something was terribly wrong and was so upset when I learned he had "protected me" from worrying.

And just post on off topic threads if you want to get your post number up quickly. The weather thread is always good!

Praying for you and your family as you wait... Ann
Alfonso, try another 3 posts and see if that doesn't do the trick for PMs; 25 seems to be the magic #. I am so sorry you still have no dx. Will try to write again later, Ann
Alfonso, I hope you can get back into the site and let us know how you're doing. Miss hearing about your testing. Very best wishes and Peace....
    Ann
Hi Alfonso, I'm no expert on the diagnostic stuff, but what I can answer, I will. Your test results come to you later...do you see your doctor in person today? I hope so. I'm so sorry your weakness and atrophy are spreading. If this isn't shown on the EMG as being the ALS pattern, I believe that it's definitely not ALS. By this point, it would have to show. Please let me know. I won't have a clue, however, of what's wrong with you if you don't have ALS from your electrical studies.
The peace of Christ be yours,
    Ann
Hello Alfonso! How nice to see a cheery hello from you. How are you doing? I'm glad you're staying in touch, but wishing you to be well, also. xo, Ann
