Various Questions in Regards to ALS

I'm not an expert but have seen one of the best MND doctors in my country and I was assured that mostly of cup have been having symptoms of twitching for a while - and you have - an EMG would pick up anything suspicious. If yours is clean then that's a good sign. Also my hand can be made to look...

    Very concerned

Gooseberry I do understand and yes most are caring and compassionate. I've been a member for around a year and it is mainly a great forum. What I can't abide is nastiness. Some posters cut in on their first response with a snipe, sarcasm or general rebuff when I would just have not bothered in...

    Very concerned

Davbo49 yes I have. As have lots of people. I agree that some posters are asking really silly questions but not all. It's the way some people on here (and it's the same people every time) are so quick to be mean and nasty at the first opportunity. First time posters are terrified and so...

    Very concerned

Jasg1973 good luck. So many nasty comments on here. You should see how they responded to a 15 year old the other day - shocking. No excuse for it regardless of situation. I feel that if people can't answer nicely then don't bother replying. They're going to lambast me for speaking my mind and...

    Very concerned

Hang on a minute Dalvin he's already said the doctor has not ruled out ALS yet you're blasting him because he's concerned enough to come on here and ask a few questions. Give the poor man a break. There's so much nastiness on this forum and it's definitely a new thing. Reading old posts from a...

    Worried about twitches

Hi Vicky It sounds like a case of BFS (Benign Fasiculation Syndrome). Have a look at the aboutbfs site. There is lots of information on there. I have to say that my problems are ongoing and I do come here to read the posts. There's a lot of nastiness here towards people who are just looking for...

    Could an EMG miss ALS?

Hi Antologia, I think that's great news. Pretty much same as me but my neuro has said he does not expect progression. I too have not been given a diagnosis of bfs. I sometimes get pins and needles, numbness and swallowing issues but I do actually think that bit could be anxiety. If you have...

    Could an EMG miss ALS?

Antologia, apologies for gender mistake! I had a 50/50 chance of getting it right! ;) I've just seen my neuro who said EMG clean as a whistle and no evidence of MND. I'm happy of course, delighted In fact but when you still have the symotons it's hard to ignore! You are right in saying we need...

    Could an EMG miss ALS?

He's very good but is actually a dancer in the west end! I can ask him but to be honest I can't be bothered as I'm seeing a neuro and a physio. I appreciate no one here is medically trained and didn't mean to get embroiled on a discussion on someone else's thread - I really understand how...

    Could an EMG miss ALS?

No - I doubt very much he would know what I'm talking about. Even my physio who has worked for the British athletic team, England Rugby and boxing teams and in a busy A&E says twitching in the setting of physio is not that common. My pilates instructor is a nice chap but not medically trained.

    Could an EMG miss ALS?

Slimva that's what I've read as well but it's not that rare according to my neuro who sees MND day in day out. I'm not wanting to scare anyone but I just think I would be fooling myself if I believed it was not the case. When I asked him if twitching comes after weakness his words were "It can...

    Could an EMG miss ALS?

Sorry Antologia for jumping on this thread - all I really want to get across is that I know exactly how you feel at this point in Time. You are definitely not alone! It's horrible waiting to "see" but it will drive us mad so we need to TRY and calm down. Easier said than done though.

    Could an EMG miss ALS?

No they have not given me any explanation. The neuro physiologist has said some people just twitch. I've been on the bfs forum for a while but since I have started cramping I am not sure i should be on there. I know there's the cramping version of als but I've readbthat it's actually quite...

    Could an EMG miss ALS?

Antologia you have said exactly what I feel and why I'm still on this board. I have been twitching a year and have had "progression" of symptoms for around 4 months. By progression I mean mild calf cramping, particularly in the left leg, numbness and tingling. I also get buzzing in my right...
