  • hi Mich, oh I can so identify about missing talking at dinner! for us, it is that my PALS has to concentrate on eating, even now his food is going through the food processor, he has to be so careful each mouthful. on top of that, breaking out laughing has caused him to aspirate before, so yeah meal time is very different now. but we adjust don't we :)
    thanks Mich!
He finds he can often cut it off quickly as it hurts his chest and he has aspirated a few times when laughing so he laughs, gets scared and cuts off. But I do miss the way we used to just sit around being quite silly and laughing. Appreciate your ideas on helping with it Mich, hope you are doing ok?
Mich, you can register with your local MDA and receive their magazine in print. I receive updates in my email. Contact them and they will send paperwork for your doc to sign
Mich, thanks for your note! Things are not better. Rog has deteriorated rapidly as he now requires care around the clock. He needs help with all of his needs...I'm so worried, I think his kidneys are failing and he won't go to ER. I'm waiting for the VA home health team, but have no idea when they will start. Melissa is spending more time here finally and she's helping. I get my cataract replaced on Monday so it's a good thing there's someone here all day. We rented a wheelchair van til the VA comes through with their grant...
    I think of you often!!
    Jen
good deal. you are correct, the first week you are on the real drug and i did experience a little dizziness but nothing crazy. they said that the side affects would subside after first 4-6 days. maybe its just me and my luck but i think im on the placebo. we shall see. good luck to you
I did. I have been in the trial for two weeks now. we shall see if it helps or not :) hope you get things going quickly!!
Hope things are going well for you. Teeth all healed? hope there arent any residual problems from your fall.
I'm adjusting well to using the Hoyer full time. We have the electric one up and running now. It lifts higher and rolls better on the carpet. KK loves the " push button" lifting and lowering.
    Hi Mich,

We haven't yet checked the roads- my husband's staffing issues has been the problem. There's a very bad flu going around- and a shortage of physicians this holiday week- Just yesterday, on Christmas, his clinic saw 170 people in one day. The place was wild and today it was about the same. There's no way he can leave when things are that crazy- cuz he needs to keep managing the limited resources and it's a hands on job. I just hope that flu does not get to our house- taking precautions. Hope to leave after Jan 1- if things go well. We're lucky- free accommodations so no advance commitments required. Happy trails to you- stay upright my friend!!!
    Me too!
So glad the dentist is behind you!
X-rays on the 18th to determine if I can lose the boot. No more standing transfers for me. Will be nice to sleep on my side again for,a couple of hours at least.
How are you doing progression wise? Arms are so weak now, big adjustment. Wellbutrin helps me deal. Still feeding myself. Though so that's good!
    BSC is bedside commode.
Hope you're finished with the dentist. Sure seems like it's taking a long time.
Back on solid foods now without further problems. Also started Cipro for UTI. The urine culture isn't back yet but the U/A showed bacteria.
Yep! It was a toileting transfer mishap. Using the BSC now with the
Transfer board and that's so much easier. Just waited too long to make the change.
Hey Mich! Doing well! Off the Lortabs, just taking a couple of Advil at night. I think I might have a sensitivity to codeine as I had some intermittent itchiness that has subsided with the decrease and discontinuation of the narcotic. I'm on clear liquids for a few days thinking I may have developed a partial paralytic ileus from the codeine and decreased mobility. If this doesn't do the trick ill have to go get some tests run, but so far it's helping. I'm relieved that we're able to use the transfer Board instead of the Hoyer again.

I have PT, OT an aide and a nurse for a couple of months .
Had a good visit with Jac. She and her Dad are coming again for Christmas.
How are things going for you?
We might get some snow tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath. It's going to get chilly though! Hey, are you on FaceBook? We have a group from here there if you'd like to join us. Lemme know!
Hello mich....my breathing is ok with the bipap....02 at 99%..... Had a wonderful thanksgiving! The dallas carmel, where my friend is, sent me a cowgirl teddy bear which sings: "to know, know you is to love, love you, when i see your smile it makes my life worth while..." i spent the whole day showing off my teddy bear and the sisters face lit up where ever i went.
